1. The New Job Hot-Spots: Phoenix, Orlando and Albuquerque
Just four years ago, the West was leading the way in job growth, with major cities commanding top salaries. However, the landscape has shifted. Cities in the Sunbelt are now booming with job opportunities, while traditional superstar cities like San Francisco are seeing companies and workers move elsewhere in search of better living and affordability. The once prestigious pay bump of big-city jobs is now leveling out, while salaries in other regions are on the rise.
2. Healthcare employment exceeds 12-month average
In January, healthcare employment saw a significant increase of 70,300, surpassing the 12-month average of 58,700.
Additional key discoveries from the analysis include:
1. Nursing and residential care facilities added 16,500 jobs in the previous month.
2. Ambulatory care settings experienced a growth of 33,400 jobs in January, while hospitals saw an increase of 20,400 jobs.
3. In the previous year, the job openings rate in healthcare and social assistance reached 7.6%, making it the second-highest rate since data collection began in 2001.
4. Healthcare wage growth as of December 2023 stood at 2.9% year over year, with the highest growth observed in nursing and residential care at 4%, followed by ambulatory care settings at 2.9%, and hospitals at 2.4%.
