The Connector: Edition 145

Jul 1st, 2026 | The Connector

This Fourth of July is not your average backyard barbecue. On July 4, 2026, the United States celebrates its 250th birthday,  and there is truly no better place on earth to be for that milestone than Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After all, this is the city where it all began.

As someone who has built a business and a community here in the greater Philadelphia area, I feel especially proud this year. America 250 is more than a commemorative moment; it is a reminder of what it means to build something from the ground up, believe in a bold idea, and bet everything on it. Sound familiar? That is the spirit of every entrepreneur and business leader I know.

Whether you are a lifelong Philadelphian or visiting for the summer, here is why our region is the place to be this July — plus a few can’t-miss events to put on your radar.

Wawa Welcome America: The Nation’s Biggest Free Birthday Party

Philadelphia has hosted one of the country’s premier July 4th celebrations for decades, and America’s 250th takes it to a whole new level. The Wawa Welcome America festival, typically held from late June through July 4th, brings the city together with:

  • Free concerts on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway
  • Outdoor films and family-friendly programming
  • Historic tours and cultural events
  • A massive fireworks display over the Art Museum steps

It is free, festive, and quintessentially Philly. Check Visit Philly for the full 2026 lineup and schedule.

MLB All-Star Week: Baseball Comes Home to Citizens Bank Park

July 2026 also brings Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game to Philadelphia, putting Citizens Bank Park in the national spotlight. All-Star Week typically includes the Home Run Derby, celebrity games, fan festivals, and the midsummer classic itself. For baseball fans, it is a bucket-list experience. For everyone else, it is another reason the energy in Philadelphia this summer will be unlike anything we have seen in years. And as you already know, the Phillies are super hot right now, so it’s going to be even more fun to see the best of MLB coming into Philadelphia!

FIFA World Cup 2026: The World’s Game, Right Here

And as if you didn’t already know, Philadelphia is also one of the host cities for the FIFA World Cup 2026, with matches at Lincoln Financial Field (the last match at the Linc is this Saturday!). The World Cup is the most-watched sporting event on the planet, and this summer, fans from around the globe have come to our very own backyard to experience it. And I have to say that Philly is by far the best host city in America! All the tourism, the amount of people at Fan Fest, and just the overall excitement in Philly is truly spectacular! It is an extraordinary moment for the region, for local businesses, and for anyone who loves the energy that only international sport can bring. Let’s go team USA!!

More Ways to Celebrate America 250

Beyond the big three, Philadelphia’s museums, neighborhoods, and historic sites are going all-out for America 250. The National Constitution Center, Independence Hall, and the Museum of the American Revolution all have special programming this summer. Don’t forget, the First Bank was recently renovated and is now open for business (opening July 1st)! Old City is buzzing, the waterfront is alive, and honestly, you could spend the entire month of July here and not run out of things to do.

A Moment Worth Pausing For

Here is what I keep coming back to: 250 years ago, a group of people gathered in this city and decided to do something completely unreasonable. They believed in an idea so deeply that they were willing to stake their lives on it.

As business owners and leaders, we understand that feeling, maybe more than most. Every company begins the same way: with a vision, a lot of courage, strong belief, and a lot of hard work.

So, this July 4th, I hope you will take a moment to soak it all in: the fireworks, the history, and the incredible energy of this city we are lucky enough to call home. Celebrate big. You have earned it.

Happy 250th, America. Be Grateful. We still live in the best country in the world, and remember…never take our Freedom for granted! We must preserve it at all costs.

Happy Fourth, Philadelphia!
